There is no way I can create my own logo. I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler! Baloney, yes you can.
CREATE MY OWN LOGO
When I was growing up, my brother was the artist in the family. I could barely draw a stick man. I believed that for many years. It wasn’t until I was about 45 that I discovered computers and internet tools. One day I started experimenting with PowerPoint to create slide shows. Then I remembered a comment my artist cousin said to me as she was looking through some photographs that I had taken with my new Pentax SLR in the early 1980’s. She said I had an artistic eye. I could see things differently than others and manage to capture that through my camera lens. With the online tools available today, you may discover hidden talents you never realized you had.
One of the programs available through my Pure Leverage account is called Smart Marketing Coaching. One of the coaching sessions was on creating your own logo and they introduced us to onlinelogomaker.com. I used that program to create the logo, at the left, for one of my other sites.
If you can browse to an internet site and use a mouse, you can create a logo!
CREATE IMAGES FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
In one of my other blogs, I talked about carrying a camera with you and look for something beautiful or interesting to take a picture of. This forces you to look for something positive. But, what do you do with the picture? Canva it!
Canva provides basic creating and editing tools for free. Sign up for a free account and your creations are stored for future modification and can be shared directly from Canva or downloaded to your computer. Make sure that when you use images from Canva that you are clear on whether they are free or not. The “for cost” images are very affordable if that’s easier for you.
If you download your creations, you can use the Smart Marketing Coaching Social Pic Redirect plugin on your WordPress site and create images for your social media sites that redirect where ever you want them to. (Email me at pureleverage @ barryclermont.com if you want to learn more about Pure Leverage and SMC, include a phone number and best time to call – evenings or weekends).
Have you ever seen those info graphics and wondered how people make them? There are numerous programs but I love working with PowerPoint for this. Alternatively, download the free Open Office and use the slide program or draw program included in that suite.
Open PowerPoint and then set your slide size (Page Setup). Remove the pre-formatted text boxes from the default slide and set the colour background as desired. Start inserting your images and text boxes and place where you want them. Add your text and insert your images. Go to the file menu and choose “Save As”, choose your image format, I prefer png or jpg. Choose this slide only and then the folder you want to save to. You’re done!
There Is No Right or Wrong
Who is the image for?
- You for posterity’s sake? (You might want to consider GotBackup)
- Social Media
- Promoting your business
- Charity groups etc.
When it comes to creating graphics, there is no right or wrong. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just keep in mind who your target is and try to see your images through their eyes. The beauty of tools like these is that you can make changes quickly when you catch things later on.
Don’t wait until you think it’s perfect or you will never do it. Just put it out there and ask for feedback. Learn from the constructive criticism and make the appropriate changes. Be careful to consider the source. If they are not your target, they are not likely the best for feedback.
Make it a great day!
What are you thankful for today?
