It’s a small world! Be careful what you say out there!

It's a small world with GVO!Once again, yesterday was a great example of this being such a small world!

Every day, I ride the Greyhound to Toronto for work.  Many days, there is a nice gentleman that I share small talk with, weather etc.  Always very polite and friendly.

The small world shrunk again!

Yesterday, that gentleman started sharing stories about the travels of his son and we somehow ended up talking about where we came from.  And then the world shrunk again!  We both grew up in Hamilton, Ontario!

After some further conversation, he gave me his tablet for a couple of minutes to hear a song his son had recorded.  Then I saw his last name.  That twigged some memories and I asked a few questions.  That’s when the small world thing kicked in again and it shrunk even more!  I had described a young girl with the same last name and he said “that sounds like my cousin”.  It turns out that his cousin lived next door to me when I was very young.

Be careful with the three foot rule!

All of this to say that I believe in the three foot rule.  I also believe that it’s important to remember that this great big world of ours becomes a small world in a hurry some days.  We need to be very cognizant of what we say because you never know when the world will shrink before your very eyes!

My wife and I often run into people hundreds of miles away that have connections close to home.  It’s a small world and there are plenty of people to reach out to.  Now get out there and make new friends, they just might reconnect you to some old ones again!

Make it a great day,

P.S.  What am I thankful for today?  I’m thankful it really is a small world.  I’m thankful for new people who come into my life.  I’m thankful my parents taught me the simple rule:  If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all!

What are you thankful for today?
