People, the greatest variable.
People come in many different shapes, sizes, colours and along with that, different personalities. We are all shaped by our personal history. For some, it’s their heritage that has a great effect. For others, it’s the environment they grew up in. Some will break centuries long beliefs and reshape their history by changing their present. Others will hold old beliefs and continue following the same pattern.
great organizations have great people
True leaders will surround themselves with great people. John C Maxwell does a great job discussing this in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. I highly recommend the read.
A true leader will take inventory of the people in an organization, see who fits the intended culture as opposed to the current culture and then cull the bad apples. Maxwell advises identifying who the true influence is in the group and win them over before starting to implement change. If you don’t understand people, you’re unlikely to be very successful making those kinds of changes.
Once the organization’s leader has surrounded themselves in great people, watch in awe as the group blossom’s into something incredible!
Watch Simon Sinek’s video below for some great insight and I highly recommend his book Start With Why!
If you don’t understand people, you don’t understand anything
Simon Sinek does a great job discussing the importance of understanding people if you are to be successful in business. The video below takes about a half hour and is a great investment of your time.
Make it a great day!
P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for authors like Simon Sinek and John C Maxwell. I’m thankful for great leaders. I’m thankful for opportunities to grow.
