Create Your Own Social Media Graphics On A Low Or No Budget

Many believe graphic design is too difficult and expensive for the average person. Here’s how you keep up with these people who seem to be able to find all these great pictures on social media.

Graphic Design

How many times have you seen a great graphic that has a picture with words on it? How do they do that? By the end of this blog, I hope you will be one of those people posting great graphics, with little to no cost.

Start With A Picture

Image from pixabay.com with text overlay using canva.comWe have all heard the old saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Pictures trigger different responses in each of us. It’s nice if you can steer the viewer in the right direction. First, let’s find a picture that we respond to ourselves. The picture itself isn’t the message but should trigger an emotional response that fits with the message you want to convey. You may have some great photos to start with. By using your own, you don’t need to be concerned about copyright. You don’t have any? Not to worry, Pixabay to the rescue!

Pixabay is a collection of thousands, if not millions of graphics. Many people have contributed images that are free to use with no attribution. Go to http://pixabay.com and sign up for a free account. You can become a contributor yourself. Caveat, they have high standards for photo quality. In the meantime, you can download pictures to use as a source to build your own graphic design for your social media activity.

Set Up A Palette

Graphic image of main screen at canva.comThere is a great graphic editing program at http://canva.com where you can upload a graphic or choose from many they offer there. Some of the graphics at Canva are free and some are very economically priced. This means the cost is controlled by you. There are pre-defined palettes for presentations and social media or you can define your own. I find 600×312 pixels works well. You will be presented with a white space to start adding your content.

Canva palettOnce you have your palette size set up, you will see a column on the left where you can start choosing your content. Either select your images from Canva stock or upload your own. Then, choose your effects. Personally, I like to use secondary images to overlay and maybe add some text. When I’m finished, I download the image to my computer to use in blogs and/or social media posts. Canva stores your finished product which you can choose to share to social media directly or download again at a later date. You can also edit your projects on Canva at a later date.

Make It Clickable

Now that you have created your graphic, it’s time to make it clickable to take your peeps where you want them to go. Maybe your blog site? You can use something like Photo Bucket. I don’t because I have Social Pic Redirect as a member of Smart Marketing Coaching through Pure Leverage.

Social Pic RedirectLog into your WordPress site where you installed Social Pic Redirect. Start a new project and upload your photo. Add the link you want it to go to and give a description that will appear on the social media site. Click on “Get shortlink” and copy the link. Paste the link into your social media “what’s happening”. Wait until the image appears and then delete the link, not the image. Post. This works great with Facebook and Google+. Twitter, you will have to upload the photo and put the link you want them to go to in the tweet body. If you use a visible link, I would use goo.gl to shorten the link and allow you to track it.

There you go, you are now a graphic artist!

Make it a great day,

Barry

Why do I need a blog?

Your blog is good for the soul and maybe the pocket book!

Why blog?

  • Organizes your thoughts.
  • Provides clarity.
  • Opens dialogue.
  • Attracts people to your business or organization.

Organize your thoughts

I call this blog site “Thinking Out Loud”.  This is where I share thoughts, ideas and concepts.  For selfish purposes, this allows me to ruminate about a subject and as the blog develops, my thoughts start to become clear and take a form that I hope will start a conversation.  When I blog, I often learn from or about myself in the process and take that into my day.

Be careful when choosing a topic.  In the famous words of Earl Nightingale, “We become what we think about most often”.

Make your blogs positive in nature and your day will follow.  Blog about negativity and your day will likely be just that, negative.

Who do you want following you?  Positive or negative people?

Strangest Secret In The World – Earl Nightingale from Paulie Ciara on Vimeo.

Over a half-century ago, Earl Nightingale complied an audio series, “The Strangest Secret In The World.”

50 years later, this remains one of the most powerful and influential messages ever recorded, and continues to transform the lives of everyone who hears and heeds it.

provides clarity

By the time I reach the end of my blog, the particular topic has become much less confusing to myself.  It’s kind of like talking to a therapist.  Have you ever noticed a therapist doesn’t actually say much but you seem to have talked yourself through an issue and things are so much better when you are done?  In the process, you just may help someone else find clarity for themselves.

opens dialogue

conferencingPosting a blog invites people to either share their thoughts with you or they will take that information and start a dialogue with someone they know.  Whether people agree with your thoughts or not really doesn’t matter.  Use your blog to start the conversation and see where it ends up.  Share your thoughts.  Open your mind to learning from the response.

Attracts people to your business or organization

banner_155Think about your own social media habits.  Who do you follow and why?

My guess is that you saw an interesting picture or read someone’s words that resonated with you.  I’ll bet you periodically check for new posts.

When you visit one of those sites, there is a good chance that there are items on the side columns that are connected to their business.  One of these days, there is a likelihood that you will click one of those just to see what it is that they do.  This is known as attraction marketing.

Whatever you do, don’t click on the monkey!

For some, blogging is a way to organize thoughts and clear the mind.  For others, it’s to start a conversation.  Businesses need to create content to attract potential clients.

With the world economy today, your client could be half way across the world and you can’t just knock on the door.  There are so many rules around phoning and door knocking these days, you have to be creative in getting attention.  Push marketing is dead.

Become the person you want to attract and let people get to know you through your blog.  You may be reaching out to people with similar interests in order to meet like minded friends.  You may be reaching out to attract new volunteers to your organization.  Your blog is a great way for people to get to know, like and trust you.

Make it a great day!

Barry

P.S.  What am I thankful for today?  I’m thankful I have a winter coat!  I’m thankful for open minded people.  I’m thankful for new opportunities to learn.

Blogging, how important is it for your business?

Blogging with Blogger Builder

Blogging is critical in today’s world of attraction marketing.  Even for individuals.  Like it or not, we are always marketing ourselves in today’s economy.

How important is blogging?  Yahoo buys Tumblr!

Big news lately is that Yahoo has made an offer of over $1Billion to buy Tumblr.  There are over 75 million posts daily on Tumblr.  Yahoo has determined that having a blogging option is critical to their business and rather than try to create something new, Yahoo is trying to buy a successful blogging business to add to their business model.  I’m inclined to believe that $1Billion is a strong acknowledgement that blogging is important.

Make yourself attractive.

The purpose to blogging is to make yourself attractive.  No, not better looking.  Well, maybe in a sense.

People no longer purchase a product just because it fills a need.  These days, there are so many similar products to meet most needs, that we are looking for something that makes me want to buy from you.  What makes you different and how do I know that?  So many are shopping online now that we often don’t get to meet our customers before they have actually made a decision.  Simon Sinek does a great discussion about people needing to understand why you do what you do and then needing to trust you.

Blogging is an important part of any marketing strategy.  This is where you can tell people why you do what you do and give them a chance to understand who you are.  Done effectively, blogging helps to build “like, know and trust” with your prospects and clients.  Find yourself a good suite of tools that includes a blogging platform and get your message out there!

Be careful what you give away!

Blogging platforms are not all created equal.  When you look at services like Tumblr, Blogspot and others, you will find that there are reasons their services are “free”.  The true cost is your information.  Using outside services means they have all of your data and control what you see.  When you have your own domain with your own blogging software, you have full control.  Just look at the news these days about changes with Youtube for example.  If you had your own hosting, video production and so on, you won’t ever be subject to the whims of others.

Blogging is important.  Make sure you retain full control over your material and get your message out there!

Make it a great day,

Barry

Looks really matter. In life and in business.

Why do looks matter?

Picture of what Barry looks like.

Thinking out loud.

First impressions.  When  we meet someone, the first thing that happens is that they literally see us.  We haven’t had a chance to utter a word and yet people are already making a decision on whether or not to continue with the interchange.  Some people are superficial and will make an immediate decision on whether or not they “like” us.  Others will wait for some exchange of words before adding that information to the visual information being used for assessment.

Looks matter but this doesn’t mean that you have to be the most handsome or prettiest person.  You will be to the people that matter if you always put your best face forward.  Hair and teeth clean and brushed.  Clothes neat and appearance tidy.  Coordinated wardrobe. Those are some of the things that matter more than your physical attributes because you have control over those and how you present yourself is a reflection of how you think.  That matters.

You won’t appeal to everyone and that’s OK!  Focus on who you want to spend time with.  Be appealing to them because that’s who matters.  If your prospect doesn’t like to be around sloppy people, don’t be sloppy.  The thing to remember is that you need to be appealing while still being true to yourself.  Don’t be someone you’re not.

How does this apply to business?

People like to deal with those they know, like and trust.  In order to gain their attention, you have to appeal to them.  Not everything is about looks but, looks matter because they are likely to see you before they ever get a chance to hear you.

Signage, location, web site.  These are all part of your “look”.  Think about yourself the first time you hit a web site.  If there isn’t something that catches your eye when you first land there, how likely is it you will look any further?  Don’t worry about what YOU think looks good.  Figure out what looks good to your prospect, that’s where looks matter most in business.  Be attractive so that your prospects will take the time to get to know, like and trust you.

Define your look and then get out there!

Now that you understand why looks matter, define your look and then get out there in front of people.  Join networking groups.  Let people you deal with every day get to know you by being in front of them and participating.  Make sure your web site is appealing and spread your message.  Pure Leverage and GVO Marketing tools are a great way to get started with that!

Become who you want to be.

We can all change our look.  Personal development should be part of your ongoing education strategy.  Read.  Attend seminars.  Associate with the people you want to be like.  But, never lose sight of yourself by trying to be someone else.  You will change just by learning.  Do you realize that reading just 10 pages a day can change your life?  Don’t think you have time to read?  Take a book to the bathroom!  Reading 10 pages a day adds up to about 12-15 books a year.  Make what you choose to read count.  I would start with Jeff Olson’s “The Slight Edge“.

Make it a great day!

Barry

P.S.  What am I thankful for today?  I’m thankful for my GVO.  I’m thankful for social network sites.  I’m thankful for each new day God blesses me with.
