Why you should track your affiliate links and how to do it

Just curious this evening after I made a video about tracking

for the Magnetic Sponsoring courses:

I am as guilty as many marketers out there in that I have

often taken the easy and quick route when it comes to

sending an email or affiliate link out the you or in the

social media world.

 

The quick way would be using the same link over and over

again which does not really help in tracking.

 

The question is why would you want to do this?

 

Lets say for example, you have links set out in many

places…Facebook, Google Plus, Youtube, etc.

 

You start getting leads, which of course is super cool

and keeps you totally motivated in continuing your

efforts online.

 

You might not know where they are coming from

though which is not really the wisest things to do

in getting you to have the best ROI (return on

Investment).

 

If you knew where your clicks and leads were coming

from this would totally make it easier to decide where

to spend your money or to buy your traffic from if you

were doing solo ads (paid advertising)

 

Many programs offer this option where you can add

a tracking link to your affiliate link, so that you know

exactly where it was that someone clicked on your link.

 

For example, I have been promoting both the Elite Marketing

Pro membership from Magnetic Sponsoring as well

as the 20 Minute Payday (and the 3 streams inside them)

over the past couple weeks and I wanted to know for sure

how many leads I got from each campaign.

 

I know which ad brought in how many clicks and how many

subscribers….Thus when all is said and done, I can determine

my ROI and determine when/if I want to use this solo ad

provider again.

 

The thing to keep in mind though if your cost per lead is not

what you had anticipated (and is higher)

 

*Your solo ad subject might suck so no one opens your email

*Your solo ad copy might suck, thus no one clicks your link

*The offer you are presenting might not fit the database desire

*Your link might not even be going to the right place and you have

wasted a solo ad!

*All your clicks and leads might not come in within 24 hours.  Have

you ever read an email about a week later…You know what I mean

I would think here.

 

All in all it pays to track and I know I need to do it more as well,

and also wanted to let you know of an easy Plugin to use for your

WordPress Blogs called Pretty Link lite which allows you to track

your links and make them look “pretty” instead of looking full of

odd characters.

 

For example, with the Elite Marketing Pro launch, which one looks

more appealling:

B) http://TheDavidGardner.com/Elite

 

Hopefully you chose the latter of the two as it looks smoother, especially

if you have a tracking link added which could make choise “A” above

even longer, like this:

Now when you are sending an email like I am here, this does not

look clean and blatantly shouts out promo, which might turn

some folks off.

 

The better you make it look, the higher the chance of someone

clicking on it.

again share it with you as an easy way to make your links look

better in your emails, blog posts, social media blasts and wherever

you are going to put your links

Any way you look at it, knowing where your leads are coming

from is going to benefit you more than you can ever imagine

where my links are coming from…I will know which came

from my email AND can also place a similar link on

my blog to know if there came from there instead!

Have you ever tried to purchase Hope?

Well, people like to gain pleasure or avoid pain right!

Often this is the main thing that keeps them from buying something.

It all stems from emotions and whether they want to achieve some sort of pleasure in your info instead of suffering the pain of not being successful for the rest of time.

The key idea is to make the process of getting started, THEIR idea and not YOUR idea!

It needs to be on their end psychologically so that they become vested as to whether it is something they need to experience pleasure or to help avoid pain.

You want to avoid the process of Buyers Remorse…

…which often takes place after a high “hype” event or webinar might take place and their emotions are on a high end…

…only to come crashing down in a day or more when they rethink what they just did.

Mike Dillard has some great suggestions on how to eliminate this from happening that you need to watch on Day 4 of the Magnetic Sponsoring Bootcamp!

The Praying Mantis of Marketing

As I was pumping gas on our way back home from vacation the other day, my daughter asked my wife as they were heading into the restroom “what’s that?”

My wife replied…”some type of moth”

She must not have been paying attention to the real thing in the view which I caught when I was done pumping.

A nice praying mantis….

If you know anything about these predators, not only are they fierce hunters, but also are ready to kill their mates when they are done doing the deed (I hope you can read between the lines there)

In other words, they are all nice and get what they want in order to grow their population, but once they know they have what they want, they go in for the kill and destroy the absolute item that helped them be able to spread in the first place.

Imagine if you did that in business?

Got someone to help you grow your business, then you just destroyed them, so you could never get any assistance again for the rest of your life.

That would not only be the death of them, but of you as well.

You always need to be finding other people who are smarter and better prepared than you so that you can continue to grow and build your brand or your business.

There is no destruction here, only growth.

I continue my education every day to always help you out and help me learn more as well (which I love to share and give you ideas about as well)

Day 3 of the Boot camp and I am feeling good about the choices I have made, but I know I can do better…

..there is always room for improvement!

It is not about making a big list of your closest friends, family, co-workers and others who you can blurt your 15 minutes of ops to.

It is about getting a targeted list!

If you are marketing software products for a blog for example, you want to reach out to blog owners, not just random people on facebook who could care less about setting up or using their own blogs.

Just like you would not promote a football helmet to a ballerina for the most part!

If you are recruiting for a Network marketing program, than promote to people already involved in networking.

These are the people already interested in what you are showing and are more often willing to make a purchase to learn more.

If you can pinpoint those who are already putting some money out towards these products versus those who are just freebie seekers, you will have just about found the golden ticket!

The way of course to do this is through advertising which can pinpoint individuals who are already involved in this and interested in solving more of their problems.

You need to do it the right way though, otherwise you can burn through cash rapidly…

…and there have been lots of changes that have occurred with things like Google Adwords and their algorithms that make it more difficult to gain quality traffic, though places like Facebook have started to take over a larger market share with their own Facebook Ads…

…Which can pinpoint desired characteristics of someone and show them your ads for competitive prices.

Get your prospects to sell themselves on your op where they see it as the solution to their problem.

As they say, people hate to be sold, but love to buy, you want them to take the lead here and make it seem like it is their own decision to contact you or grab your products due to a need in their business.

Your goal is to Position yourself as a leader willing to give your guidance…

…You are seen as an expert willing to help and not just someone who is greedy and selfishly trying to make a sale!

Again…Position yourself as a leader…this is why your prospects join you!

So I decided it was time to go back and revisit what brought me further into the world of Internet Marketing.

I am going through the same 7 day bootcamp I watched back in 2009 and wanted to refresh my memory and hit on the big points that Mike shared, which still hold so true to this day and will years from now.

One of the big take-away’s from Day 1 is the idea of education.  Suggesting that you can always be learning and finding what is working now and providing positive feedback is par for the course for Magnetic Sponsoring.

I find myself buying stuff all the time…I might not read them all right away, but I do get to them and they are mine forever (and can thus read them or go through them at my convenience.

For instance, I am actually reading Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” for the second time this after first reading it in PDF form, then picking up the book a couple months ago.

All in all this helps to establish yourself as an expert!

This is what helps to attract others to you, instead of you calling upon them.
